Mustang 2012

Ford is giving a green light to build the 2012 Mustang Boss 302. This is great news for the Ford Mustang fans who have been hoping for the comeback of the Boss 302. The decision to build a new Boss Mustang was greatly planned with the design team to create a Mustang Boss 302 that would truly live up to its legendary name.
According to Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Global Product Development, “The entire team at Ford felt the time was right and with the right ingredients, the world-class 2011 Mustang could support a successful, race-bred, worthy successor to the original Boss 302. For us that meant a production Mustang that could top one of the world’s best – the 2010 BMW M3 – in lap times at Laguna Seca. We met our expectations.”
Lets cut to the chase, to achieve this grandeur, the new V8 engine for the Boss had to start from the top down with the 412 horsepower from the 5.0-liter found in the 2011 Mustang GT. Then a new intake and a pair of aggressive-profile camshafts are added to achieve high-rpm horsepower for the track. The resulting power yields 440 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque, and it is still offering a smooth idle and low-end torque for comfortable cruising around town.
In the suspension and steering department, higher-rate coil springs are added with stiffer suspension bushings and a larger-diameter rear stabilizer bar. The result changes lower the Mustang Boss 302 by 11 mm at the front and 1 mm at the rear. Adjustable shocks and struts are come in standard equipment on all Boss Mustang.
The exterior design is inspired by the 1969 Boss to evoke its look in the modern way: a black or white roof panel, C-stripe, closed fog lamp openings and a more aggressive front splitter and rear spoiler. Colors for the 2012 Boss Mustang are available in Competition Orange, Performance White, Kona Blue Metallic, Yellow Blaze Tri-Coat Metallic and Race Red. And in the interior, the Boss Mustang gets a dark metallic finish for the instrument panel, gauge cluster and door panel trim, Alcantara leather steering wheel and an optional package with Recaro high performance seats.
The 2012 Ford Mustang won’t be available for a while, but you can catch the 2010 Boss 302 when it unveils at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
